HD101 on set Capture with BM card
Hey guys,
Has anyone tried doing this? Taking the component HD out from the HD101E camera into a Mac/PC with a Blackmagic HD exteme or superior card installed and capture direct to disk. I know that the drivers/software support only 720p59.94, 720p60 & 720p50. But if I shoot on 24P is it possible to capture using the 1080p24 setting. Will there be automatic upscaling of video? I really want to try this and will try to get my hands on one of these cards since I already have the camera and I'm not too happy with the output from firewire after capturing on tape. |

I have captured live 720P60 with a BM Decklink and multibridge. When capturing a live signal the only options for component output are 720P60, 720P50, and 720P48 (with pulldown in a 720P60 signal.)
FCP will allow you to drop the 720P48 captures into a 720P24 sequence and automatically throw away the repeated frames. If you are going to attempt to capture from tape, then you do have a 1080i60 or 1080i50 option, depending on your original frame rate. The 1080i cross-converter in the HD100 only seems to work when playing back from tape. The 1080p24 setting would not work because it is designed for full raster 1080P from a HDCAM deck.

Thanks a lot Tim. I'll give it a try. If I run into a mess with the settings while importing the 720p48 footage onto a 24p timeline I'll let you know.

Tim, you recommend the BM DECKLINK EXTREME card over the AJA KONA LHe?
