Quick HD-100 Model Advice

Hello there. After having done a lot of research (mostly on DVi) and messing about with the camera at a local dealer, I am very close to purchasing a GY-HD100U from B & H photo. I have several questions about it, but the quick one I'd like to ask now before I head out for business is: what is the difference between the HD100A and the HD100U? Are there any other HD100 models currently available for the North American market? What is the very latest (and last, I guess) model of the HD100?

Thank you very much. And, thank you for all the in-depth postings already in this forum. I have learned a lot in here.

Unless you buy a demo or a refurb from B&H, you'll not likely to find an HD100(U) that has not had the (A) updgrade. The upgrade was of the firmware variety, and fixed some compatibility issues with the Anton Bauer battery mount --it allowed for monitoring of battery status in the EVF and communication of the remaining capacity of the digital battery gauge -- and the FireStore HD recording device. Although the HD100 has been replaced with JVC's newer, updated yet again, version the HD110U.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick answers, Tim. But what about the HD100U? Is that before or after the HD100A? The U is the model that B & H is selling right now.

The HD100U was the original version. An update was offered and the HD100U became the HD100U(A). Any new stock that B&H is selling has probably had the (A) upgrade, but it would be good to ask to be on the safe side.

Here is the HD100U at B&H:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...ughType=search
$5,199.95 and until the end of August, this camera comes with a free Anton Bauer Kit mail-in offer.

Here is the HD110U at B&H:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...ughType=search
$5,495 and with a new IDX promotion has a discounted IDX battery kit offer.

All cameras sold now have the "A" upgrade already.

Basically, conidering the difference in price and the battery offers, the HD100 is about $700 to $1100 cheaper, depending on how you figure it. The HD110 has some enhanced features (listed on the JVC site and in other threads) that may or may not be important to a particular shooter:

(Click the red letter link for the new features.)

The U only means U.S.A.
The A denotes the upgrade. A JVC rep wrote in another thread sometime ago that all cameras at B&H are the A version. Newer cameras do not have the A designation simply because all features of the A upgrade are standard to the camera under the regular numbers.

Here are the cameras currently available:
HD100U(A) -- still sold for those who have stock as the HD100U --U.S. version
HD110U -- U.S. version of the new model

HD110e -- European version of the HD110 with "Firewire-in" Disabled.
HD111e -- European version of the HD110 with "Firewire-in" Enabled

(The U.S. version has Firewire In enabled on all models, and so there is only one model, the "10" and no "11.")

Note: All authorized JVC dealers would have only "A" versions of the HD100U. Unauthorized dealers may not. On a used camera check for the "A" sticker near the serial number.
