Red streak

Great camera - one problem to date:
In frame was a house under construction. When the sun shone brightly on two planes, just the edge of these planes (plywood sheets) was bright red, instead of white. It stands out quite noticeably. I used hdxdv to capture and the problem exists in both .m2t and the converted .mov file.
Any idea about this - is it normal? How can I be sure to avoid this in future?
Thanks,
James
