JVC Tech Support in U.S. / Latest ProHD Firmware Updates

Carl Hicks just sent me a reminder that the actual tech support phone # for
U.S. Pro Support is 1-800-582-5825

This phone is manned 9 AM to 5 PM Eastern Time, Monday thru Friday. This website has additional support information: http://pro.jvc.com/prof/support/index.jsp

If you need additional assistance, please contact your reseller. If your reseller cannot assist, then please ask them to get their JVC District Manager involved.

Avoid phoning other published JVC Customer Service numbers because they may just send you to the consumer division, which won't be as helpful for ProHD product issues.

Contacting your JVC rep in the U.S.

Hi Tim or Chris,

I see customer issues sometimes in which the customer needs to contact their sales rep for assistance. Could you please post these instructions as a sticky?

Thanks, Carl

FYI for all reading this: It's easy to find the name and contact info for your JVC rep. (in the U.S. that is) Just follow these steps:

1. Go to our pro website: www.jvc.com/pro
2. Pull up the page for the product in question, for example, the GY-HD110U.
3. On the left side of this page, click on the "Contacts and Dealers" link.
4. Enter the zip code for your dealer. (Or enter your zip code if you are looking for an authorized dealer)
5. The JVC sales rep and sales engineer that services that zip code will be shown, along with the dealers that cover that zip code.

Latest ProHD Firmware Updates

All camcorder and deck firmware updates require the use of a SD card and a SD card reader/writer.

HD100U(A)/HD110U (North America): Update released July 7, 2007
Go to this JVC update page and follow the instructions to check if your camcorder needs the update.

HD200U (North America): v1.01 update released May 2007.
Go to this JVC page for instructions and download.

HD250U (North America): v1.05 update released May 2007.

HD250E/HD251E (Europe): v1.06 update released June 2007.

As far as we know this current batch of camcorder updates improve NLE ingest compatibility, but do not add the "lo-lux" feature we've heard about in various media reports.

BR-HD50U: v1.08 update released June 2007.
Go to this JVC page for instructions and download.

The v1.08 update adds "Compatibility with Non-HDCP compliant HDMI devices, automatically switching HDCP off when connected via HDMI to a Non-HDCP compliant device."
The previous v1.06 firmware update added "Compatibility with Final Cut Pro and other non-linear video editing equipment, Time Code duplicate feature in HDV mode, Batch capturing, Time Code reading at edit points."

BR-HD50U: v1.09 update released April 2008.
Go to this JVC page and click on the firmware upgrade link.

v1.09 adds more compatibility with non-HDCP compliant devices such as Convergent Design's MI and BlackMagic's BMD Promise card. You can now also connect the BR-HD50U to a computer monitor.

DR-HD100 Full 720p/24/25/30/50/60 Quicktime HDV support: v3.0 released Feb 19, 2008
This update must be purchased from Focus Enhancements. This version also adds auto-reel functionality.

Download update, version notes and manual from this link. A firewire cable is used to transfer the update from your computer to the DR-HD100.

Previous DR-HD100 firmware updates are available under "Software Downloads" at Focus Enhancements.

SRDVD-100U: Firmware updates are downloadable directly to the unit via ethernet/internet by using the setup button on the remote and navigating to "FW Update".
The latest AvelLink Server Software is available for MacOS X or XP from this link on iodata's website. Beta versions of the server software are available here for Linux and older versions of Windows.
