Offloading HD100 footage through non-HD?
Can you dump HD100 footage to a hard drive from a non-HDV deck (and still maintain the HDV format); through, for instance, my DVX100A? I would think the compression is done when you record the HDV signal to tape, and therefore you should be able to dump the footage through any camera that can handle mini-DV tape. But, as I'm woefully ignorant in this area, I could be totally wrong.
My HD100 is in for service, and I'd like to dump some footage, hence my question. I shot in 720/24p. Thanks! |

I tired to do this on my cheap Canon camera, and a error poped up. Something to the affect of "incorrect format."
My belief is the Deck/Camera must be able to read the format. This is why people often ask if the JVC deck can handle HDV 2 (Sony, Canon) and it can't. |
