Br-hd 50
Question.
Thinking of getting the JVC HDV deck. BR_HD 50. Does it: A. Does it perform an edge crop or a side cut or center cut when it downconverts to 480/i ? B. Does it downconvert via 1394? C. Does it do a pulldown from 24p to 29.97fps? Thanks, |

Got info from BR-HD 50 on-line manual
For anyone who is interedted.
From what I can tell you can downconvert to 480i, 29.97 from from 1280/720 24p from the analog component or composite outputs with a side cut, essentially protecting 4:3 with no letterbox. (Nice) IEEE 1394 will output whatever native rate or resolution that is on the tape. No downconvert through firewire. (let me know if I'm wrong on this) That fits my workflow perfectly: Digitize into Canopus 3.61 at 24p, edit, layback in HDV 720/24p, and then output analog component from the BR-HD 50 with side cut to Betacam SP for station dubs. That will keep me from wasting time with the render instensive downconversion processes that I've been reading about. Any thoughts??? |

David,
You've got the workflow down pat. Regards, Carl |

Okay then.
Thanks Carl, I noticed you're with JVC so I know what I read in the manual was correct. I'll call my JVC dealer here in Houston this week. The $3k or so will be worth the time saved and we can make spot dubs straight from HDV, Cool.
Now if could only use my beloved Avid Xpress Pro HD to capture24p, (I've been on that platform since 1994) Maybe soon after NAB David |
