Downconversion from HDV to DV in camera?!
Dear partners.
Just got my JVC 101E. I have one (maybe stupid question). Does anybody know how to downconvert recorded HDV 25P to DV via the firewire output. I dont seem to find anything about this except via the component/composite output?! Why you might think. Why dont record in DV?! Yes, but for the future it would be great to be able to have everything recorded in HDV. And that the camera does the downconversion, not a software. Do someone know this. Or know some threads that have this information. Its bad if the camera does not support this and Sonys do. Best regards and a nice weekend to you all. /Stefan

There is no HDV to DV downconversion to firewire built into the HD100/101.
BTW, native 720P HDV actually uses less hard drive space than standard def DV, and most of the popular NLE systems are now supporting it natively. (at least 720P30.) There are other solutions for 720P24 and 720P25. Search around this forum and you will find numerous discussions on HD100 post-production workflows.

Thanks Tim.
Thanks for your reply. I was thinking the same thing, just didn know if the camera was able to convert it.
I know about MainConcept Pro and Cineforms solutions for Premiere and this is was I was prepered for, so I going to buy one of them. Thanks again, and thank you for all your threads and help you are giving to everyone. /Stefan

Here are a couple of PDF's for you. They pertain to one NLE but the idea is the same for all native NLE's
How to edit in HD(V) and finish in SD How native LongGOP HDV editors work Good luck... |
