HD100U SALE..Is JVC Coming out with a new HDV Camera?

I just got a sales promo email:
http://www.ggvideo.com/jvc_gy-hd100_sale.htm

Is JVC trying to dump this camera and coming out with
a new improved HDV Camera at NAB?

No, don't start rumors. This board has discussed the IDX battery promo already at length. Do a search first...:-)

They have been that price for a while now and the promo is a promo. Nothing new except that JVC did raise the dealer price. (Not MSRP).

Right, They actually raised the price, not lowered. The end of the promo period is next week and then you can get the camera for $5400 without the IDX.

One would think that the make believe "big blowout" of inventory to make room for this new non existent camera that is not coming would do better without JVC raising the price to dealers. :)

Well, there IS a new JVC HDV camera coming, but it's the $28,000 GY-HD7000U.

There shouldn't be any new HD100; a couple of months ago Bob Mueller, president of JVC, said that they consider the HD100 a "mature product" and have no plans for a replacement envisioned anytime soon.

Given that both Panasonic and Sony have Handheld cameras -- there is certainly room for an HD10 replacement. Clearly it would have to be at the FX1 pricing level.

It could come from the pro factory or be a pro version of whatever the consumer division brings out. PMA starts Sunday and the HD1 made it's USA appearance at PMA.

The reality is that since Sony has no 24p and Sony has introduced a single chip HD camcorder -- JVC does not have to do 3 chips. They might use Sony's CMOS. Or, do a major CCD & DSP upgrade to the HD10 -- with the obvious addition of the necessary control system. I'm sure hoping it is the latter because I really don't want a change to the HD10 color rendition.

There's also the rumor the consumer group will graft a hard disk to either a new imaging system or an enhanced HD1/HD10 imaging system. This would allow a very smooth move to 720p60 at 40Mbps.

There's also those who think JVC will join Samsung and release a camera based on the Ambarella 720p30 h264 chip. The Samsung has 4GB of flash built-in -- plus an SD slot.

There is so much chip technology coming I expect many new HD camcorders this year.

By the way if you go to our General HD Area you can get lots of Sanyo ($799) 720p30 HD MPEG-4 video clips -- really darn good -- and someone has posted a FREE CA removal filter.
