Just bought JVC100 - any advice?

After 6 months of heavy duty research - and quite a bit of waiting - I took the plunge today and bought a JVC100.

At a little under $5 grand (plus a coupon 4 a $1k battery pack/charger), it cost about 1/2 of what the HVX w/P2 cards or the Cannon does - and after the 4-way camera shootout, it was a deal I felt I could not walk away from. And it was from a dvinfo sponsor 2 boot!

THAT said, is there any advice, from the mundance to complicated, that you guys mights have for me? The SSE issue is scary, but hopefully will not be a big deal.

Editing? Even after reading all the threads here I'm still unsure if I should for an update to FCP, or go another route...

As to what the camera is being used for - you guessed it - it's for (2 at this point) independant films.

Anyway, any advice would be greatly appreciated - Thanks!

John

The fact you are making films strongly suggests you are shooting 24p. (Although if you only want a "film look" on DVD you can certainly shoot 720p30.)

The key difference is that only 720p30 is currently supported by FCP. But, if it will be a few months until you edit -- then 24p support should be available.

About SSE -- and if you want edit 24p now -- of course, I highly recommend my book. See below.

2d edition?

Thanks for the advice Steve...

And yep, I'm fully intending to buy your book.

Actually, I was going to email you about this - I thought I read on another thread that you were comming out w/ a 2nd, updated version of your book. Is that correct, and is it available now?
