JVC KA-MR100G recorder and GY-HD200E

Can anyone help with my problem, I recently fitted the above recorder to my HD200E but keep getting the message "No Signal"
The firewire connection seems fine as the camera knows how much time is on the SxS card and I have set the switches as per instructions ie camera to HDV and recorder to Ext.
My firewire cable is slightly longer than the 0.2m stated but would that really make the difference?

Have you verified the FireWire so it actually work properly?
I think those models had FW-ports that fried easily if they were connected/disconnected with power on.

Malcolm. To further what Petter says, have you also checked that it is compatible with your camera model? I am not sure, but I have a vague memory that says the model number would have to end with "be". So your model number should read like GY-HD200BE. I think.

Thanks guys, regarding cable I have uploaded from camera to computer today so that end is ok, connected recorder to computer and computer recognised device so that seems ok too. As to compatability, JVC instructions supplied promote the recorder as being compatible with the GY-HD200E and also GY-HD250

How do you power the unit?

And where does the message "no signal" appear? Something tells me there is some failure to connect both your camera and recorder somewhere in the chain. To me it seems odd that the recorder will accept an HDV stream and turn that into a signal allowing for higher bitrates recording.

What is your format set to? Does the outgoing signal have to match the incoming signal, ie 720p50?

Re: JVC KA-MR100G recorder and GY-HD200E

I have quite a bunch of 200/201E-s with KA-MR100 fitted. I guess there is only one way you can get "no signal" message while still reading recorder status on camera - you got a faulty firewire cable.

It works fine with any stock cable. One that's included with KA-MR is bulky and tend fall off. I prefer to make custom low-profile cables. Only 4 wires are used instead of 6 (no power). Also, it's possible to make an internal connection but requires camera modification.
