Does the KA-MR100G require a firewire cable?

I'm a bit confused as to how the KA-MR100G records data from the HD200. I know you need the KA-UM100 adapter ... which leads me to believe you also need a firewire cable going from the HD200 to the KA-UM100. Is this true? Is there a small firewire cable specifically made for this purpose? Is it stable and secure? Perhaps input at at right angles?
