Capture Issue
I have an HD110. When I try to capture my 24p footage with FCP and Adobe Premiere the audio is out of sync!? I never have a problem with 30p. And I just cant figure this out. Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone know how to fix it?

What version of Final Cut Pro are you using?
(If you are on 6.0.x) With all projects closed, verify your easy setup in the FC menu. The two top drop down menus help to narrow down your search (hd and 23.98), but you are actually selecting the third menu: HDV-720p24. Once you setup, you have to go to the Audio/Video settings and change the tab for Device Control Presets. Double-clicking what was checked will allow you to make a copy of it (and name it). You need to set the Frame Rate from 29.97 to 23.98. My copy that I made for that is called "HDV GY-HD100". I have no idea why the frame rate needs to be changed here since your easy setup is 23.98. Once you do that, create a new project and try again. You may also play some footage on the camera and make sure the top corner says hdv-hd24p and not something else. |

How are you judging sync? What picture and audio ? Fcp window or video card out ? What audio out ? And did you by some chance mess with fcp's audio playback offset ? Should be 4 frames.

Adobe
I am using Adobe Premiere CS3 to edit. I had tried capturing on a friends FCP and that didn't work. The sync is off no matter where you look(The FCP Windows and the final Exported file) I haven't changed any settings and I only have this problem with 24P. I have the issue when capturing from camera and when capturing from the br-hd50 deck. I try to change any setting I can find to 24P, but I continue to have this issue.

hmmm I have Final Cut Studio (1, yeah I know, but I do every other software upgrade) and shoot 24p all the time with tape and firestore and never had a synch problem. Is there a sound card that's being used or monitoring system that's giving a slight lag? depending upon what equipment it's running through (mixers, splitters etc) if the video isn't equally as held back then it will be off. Unless you are palying the video off your hard drive and listening to the speakers plugged out of the stock mini 8 plug, it might not really be out of synch.
Mostly what I shoot these days is off my Focus Enhancements DTE 100 drive, so if there is a problem, I must have bypassed the problem with using a DTE drive. (which I highly recomend by the way) Though the next batch of DTE will likely use SD or other similar cards and thus be smaller, lighter, better battery life, more reliable and cheaper, like the upgraded version of the old JVC HD10 will be in early 09. (so says the rumor mill) |
