Capturing footage from an analog signal using my JVC hd-100

I was told that i could capture footage from a dvd or vhs player using my JVC hd100u
using the ....(component, or composite, please explain if you know the diff.) cables... that regularly are used to Output the signal from the camera....

Its a big hastle First i want to figure out how to get the footage in from those 3 cables and then to connect to FCP i have 4.5....

second: how to capture a live feed of that into FCP..

Please help... i heard this from someone i will clear up what camera he used...
