Audio line-out on HD100 pre- or post-compression?
I tried searching on the forums for this one, but came up empty.
If I'm shooting HDV 720p, is the audio that comes out of the "line-out" jack uncompressed, or is it the MPEG-layer audio that is recorded to HDV tape? I'm thinking about connecting my Zoom H2 to this port, so I can have dual system sound and an uncompressed master to go with my HDV audio. Will this work? Also, has anyone done a test on the HD100's mike pre-amps that would compare them to an industry standard, like one of the Sound Devices mixers? |

If you're recording audio at the audio out jacks at the same time as rolling tape in camera, it is BEFORE the audio gets encoded to an MPEG stream.

Thanks. That's what I thought. Time to see if I can jury-rig something to attach my Zoom H2 to the back of my camera!

Unless I'm mistaken, the level coming out of the RCAs should be at "Tape Out" level or -10dB, which isn't QUITE Line level but it's "close".
