A Conversation with Haskell Wexler
So I was chatting with Haskell Wexler yesterday, he was in town for the 35th anniversary celebration of American Graffiti, and he was good enough to take a few moments out to have a quick word. He was video taping his visit with what looked like a Sony HC-7 with the hot shoe shotgun mic. He mentioned he was video taping all of his stops at "Graffiti" events and making a video gift for his dear friend George (Lucas). We chatted about his memories of shooting Graffiti, flying back and forth every day and night from his day job to Petaluma and back. After a moment, he began asking me questions about my 110 setup, and was very intrigued by the "focus assist" feature. He was really interested in the manual lens, but was worried about getting a clean focus. His exact words were "I have the little panasonic HD camera (HVX-200), and I love the little thing to death, but I hate having to haul around a damned monitor to make sure I have a good enough focus. That means I have to have an extra set of hands to help me work the thing."
What a great guy.
