Canon HDV compatible?

I know that sony HDV decks cannot play footage from JVC HDV. Can a Cannon HDV Camera or Deck playback JVC HDV?

No, JVC will only play JVC, Canon only Canon and Sony only Sony.

I think, (that is I've been told) that the old JVC HD1 and HD10's can play not only 30p but 24p. (24p is not displayed via component cables however, so you could only use it as a tape feeder). I'll pull mine out and test it if you are interested. If so, I'll sell it fairly cheap. Though since I got my Focus Enhancement's HD100DTE drive, life is good again.

sorry incomplete thought:

SINCE I got my Focus Enhancement's HD100DTE drive I don't need a 2nd camcorder for being plugged into my computer and using as a capture deck. and if you were thinking of spending $1,000 or more for a 2nd camera, just spend $1,500 for a DTE. captures up to 9 or 10 hours of 720p 24fps HDV and can transfer to your computer in about 1-2 hours, or edit in the field off your laptop without spending time to capture. Assuming that's what you were looking for a Canon camera for.

How about the other way around - will Sony 1080i HDV tapes play back on any Canon HDV gear?
