Upconversion from gyhd200 to 1920x1080 YUV 4:2:2 at 10-bits for 35mm out.
Hi,
We've been asked to produce a series of commercials for release in cinemas. End product to be delivered on 35mm. Not having produced end products on 35mm yet, I'm doing a LOT of reading! I'll probably choose to shoot this on the hd200 to keep costs down and have been looking at using Cineform to send the end product to the transfer house. Cineform say that Prospect will upconvert HDV material to 1920x1080 YUV 4:2:2 at 10-bits. Does anyone have any experience with this conversion from the gyhd200 and how does it translate? Also, as Cineform suggest, some cameras bypass MPEG compression via component out so we could record native on location compression into a Prospect workstation. Any advice on how the HD200 works with film out would be great! Thanks |

From the point of quality up conversion with Cineform ProspectHD to 1920x1080 10bit, it does a very nice job. In January I made a short film displayed in Cinema through Barco Digital Cinema projection systems. It looked awesome.
If you want to avoid HDV compression you can capture on-site with BlackMagic or AJA component capturecards and a fast computer. But it's much more hassle with cabling and setup, then to tape inside the camera or DR-HD100.
