BR-HD50U Firmware Update Anytime Soon?
So, I have been using Adobe Premiere Pro to capture my HDV tapes from the HD-110U camera. They are captured perfectly...unlike with final cut. However, I have been trying to edit with Adobe and I really think it is sub-par...I am probably just too used to final cut. So, I am thinking of doing the firmware upgrade to my camera so that the tapes should be captured to final cut without (or with less) subclips...however, I really don't love the idea of using my camera as a deck. That is why I bought a deck.
So...is there any word of a firmware upgrade for the BR-HD50U deck that is similar to the firmware upgrade that happened for the camera this past summer? Thanks, Sharon |

There have been two firmware updates. The most recent version is the 1.08 version. I don't know what exactly that entails however.

Yes - the BR-HD50 has had updates specificaly related to improving capture performance. However, as I understand the camera firmware actually changes the way clips are RECORDED to tape to help prevent the subclips in FCP when the the stream is output. So you shouldn't hesitate for a second before getting your camera updated.
Just to be clear: changing the firmware in the cameras will give you tapes that are less prone to give subclips on capture, the PLAYBACK is not affected by the firmware. Thus, new tapes that you record after the (5 min max) firmware update will play back from the BR-HD50 without creating subclips. I am using the BR-HD50U without subclip issues in FCP currently.
