Update

Well, I thought it was the end of the road for the old BR-HD50 purchased about two years ago and pronounced totaled by JVC ($2300 repair) . It seems the parts just were to expensive to replace on the machine to justify. Even with the discount offered for the tape mechanism, the costs were too much, so I thought it was going to be the great transistor bin in the sky.

But, at the last moment before office space vengence, I received a call from a polite JVC rep asking me to send it back to them for one last attempt at a fix. They had heard from the home office. I immediately recalled the $80 out of hock fee the last go round, yet, what to I have to lose? I'll let you know what happens.

Bottom line, JVC does listen to dealers in this case or they read this forum and want to do right by users. So if you're unhappy speak up, call, make some noise, it may result in a 2nd chance.
