Right, sorry. I did, however, make sure I didn't say it was HDV.

The question is, what is an HD POV camera, in layman's terms.

It is a camera head and lens for studio work or sports coverage -- anywhere that a tape transport is completely unnecessary.

the camera worked fine the next day.
I have been using it less continously and had no more problems.

I also cleaned the heads, so it may have been clogging.

HD10U Rentals?

Hi. I have been scanning this forum for awhile now, and it is very informative. I would love to do some tests with this camera. Does anyone know where a good cheap rental place I can rent it for a couple days or possibly even a owner that would be willing to rent it out. I am from Canada. Which would probably make a difference. Anyways, thanks. I hope to here from some of you.

I have seen some ads in video magazines offering rentals. Specifically, don't remember which ones, but they were in L.A. and were geared more towards digital filmmaking. They also had DVX100A's and the like for rent, too.

Check out Hollywood Studio Rentals.

Funny, I just recommended them to somone else in another forum today!

Also check out Studio Gear. They are in Wisconsin which may be closer (or a shorter trip) depending on which part of Canada you're in.

Good luck.

HDV Breakfast at NAB 2004 - Who's coming!

Just a quick note to invite anyone and everyone interested to a Breakfast at the Monte Carlo Hotel on Wednesday, April 21 - during NAB.

We'll chat about all things HDV (and other toys we saw at the show I'm sure) and put some names and faces together.

Please email me to confirm your attendance as I will have to book at Table at the Restaurant.

Email: darren@hdvtraining.com

Hope to see you there.

Here we go with the HD 10

Well next week we'll be shooting docudrama and interviews for 6 days straight. I won't have time to post here but I'll try to make notes on how the HD10 performs. ONe thing I noticed in my tests of the camera is that the lens really lets you get close to objects. It makes incredibly detailed close ups of small objects at an inch from the lens. Close ups of my cell phone face and chess pieces look very clean.

The viewfinder seems a bit inadequate for razor sharp focus and the lens has no F-stop marks or focus marks on it. One of my early tests with just the color viewfinder, was slightly soft when I pulled the video into the computer.

However, we bought a 9 inch BW Panasonic field monitor which solves the focus issue very nicely. The BW monitor also gives me a better sense of the relative range of whites, grays and blacks. I think its easier to tell if your white highlights are blown out, or if your blacks and shadows are crushed.

Oh yeah... if JVC asks me how to improve this camera, I'll tell them I need absolute manual control over focus, aperture and shutter speed.

Plus a 9 inch BW viewfinder on top......

Hi Salim,

You wanted GR or JY?
If I'm not mistaken, JVC only has these 2 categories :

GR-HD1 and
JY-HD10

GR - consumer model
JY - Prosumer model (with XLR adapter)

That was interesting information. Let us know how the camera works out for you.

Just wondering, does anyone here know of the JVCGR/HD10U being used for any broadcast work yet? I would love to see some examples of it (either SD or HD...) shown on TV.

I heard a rumor that the guy that does "American Chopper" had used it occasionaly, but it's really hard to pick out if it's made it into the program or not.

I am seeing more and more commercials for HD Satelite networks. You would think cost-effective cams like this would be what DV cams are to broadcast journalism.

There is a pilot of a CBS summer show that is being shot with 3 HD10's. Have to wait and see what happens with those. With regards to the American Chopper guys, you would be referring to the shoot I did with them for a show called American Beauty Shop. It was only a pilot. Unfortunately the footage they asked for from me was 16x9 and I had to downconvert that 16x9 footage to DV. The producer made a mistake as the material was really 4x3 so in the actual show they had to take the downcoverted 16x9 footage and zoom and crop on it to get full frame 4x3. Not exactly the best results. I'll let you know if I hear anymore about the shows or if beauty shop reairs.
