Tommy,

not for nothing but I think JVC should have warrantied the accessories as supplied with the camera as those accessories are likely deemed necessary to operate and use the camera- simply put- the cable should have been covered!

Well yes it would be nice if JVC would cover the accessories however it is customary for many warranties to be quite limited in nature. For example when you buy a vacuum cleaner you may find that belts are not covered.

In your case I would believe that you would have been entitled to a free component cable from JVC. JVC must provide a camera with fully functional accessories and in your case the component cable never worked from day 1. Of course a professional diagnosis would have been helpfull to determine if the cable was likely at fault. With a professional diagnosis you can then demand satisfaction from JVC.

However in my case my cable was fully functional for 10 months so I could not claim that JVC sold me a non working cable. And according to the warranty contract cables are not covered. And the replacement cables do indeed have a seperate 90 day warranty.

A very helpfull consumer law passed by congress is the Moss Magnussen warranty improvement act. This law gives the consumer unprecedented rights and even the right to neglect maintenance. For example if you neglect to use your head cleaning tape and your heads become destroyed you may have to pay for the replacement of the tape reading heads but the rest of your warranty remains intact because your failure to clean the tape heads had nothing to do with the other parts of the camera failing. Also JVC cannot automaticaly void a warranty for using non genuine JVC tapes. As long as the generic tapes do not cause a problem they are fine to use. However even if it is determined that your tapes were of such poor quality that they caused the video camera to jam up you or the tape company may have to pay for the repair but the rest of your warranty remains intact.
