Qucik transfer from HDV to Beta-SP
Need to make a quick Beta-SP copy from my HDV footage. How about using the component cable (Y, Pb, Pr) or the S/AV/Editing cable to hook up the HD-10U to a Beta-SP deck? Anyone tried that? Which one gives the better quality?

I have successfully transferred several tapes to BetaSP by using the component output set to 480i. You will also have to connect the audio cables to the beta deck. All this will usually require 5 adapters. 3 rca female to BNC male adapters and 2 rca to xlr adapters.

Thanks for the reply, Mark. Is the resulting footage on Beta in 16:9? Also, when it is component out, it’s automatically set to 480i, right?

The footage is 16:9 not letterboxed. If you want it letterboxed it is best to go through s-video. The component out is usually set to 720p output as the default but all you have to do is go into the menu on the cam and change it to 480i.

Mark nailed it on both counts. I did a down-convert to mini-dv via the s-cable, etc., and it worked beautifully. It also letterboxed.
