NAB 2004: HDV camera/deck announcements! Post 'em here! (esp. JVC)

Hey everyone,

Thought I'd make it easy by putting this thread here to post JVC and others' HDV camera/deck announcements at NAB 2004. Post away while I tearfully watch from South Florida! ;-)

JVC Announcements

JVC's website has announced a new 2/3" ENG style HDV camera, the portable CU-VH1US HDV recorder/player and also a POV style HD camera. All information is located at

http://pro.jvc.com/pro/pr/2004/nab/c...sskit2004.html

Unfortunately, no news about any updates to the HD1/10's or anything similar at this point. Also, no price has been put on the ENG style camera as it is still a prototype. Just thought I would pass the word along.

NAB Blues.

So, it looks like NAB has been chock full o' vaporware. Sony showed their mockup, Panasonic showed a mockup that will record on flash memory some day, JVC showed a mockup of their ENG camera...all months or years from being ready for introduction. I'm kind of surprised and bummed that JVC didn't update the HD10U. I figured they'd address some of the concerns people have, especially since they're still the only game in town.

It may be 2006 before there's any real diversity in this market if NAB is any indicator.

A lot of us predicted that would happen; it can take up to two years from announcement before a good, working prototype is ready. That's at least what many of my friends in the field are saying. I'm surprised by what you wrote.

And don't forget, they didn't start committing to this until last August or Sept. 2003.

I think, also, that Apple saying they're working on a solution for HDV doesn't hurt them since JVC's HD10 and HD1 are still the only games in town for a little while more.

Here's a direct link and photo of the ENG-style 3 chip camera we've heard JVC talk about last month or so:

But isn't Apple's announcement really for the high-end HD players? It still leaves HDV users to fend for themselves. Don't sell your HD-10 yet. You may be married to her for a few more years!

I'm not planning on selling my HD10 for a while.

Apple promises to have their own HDV support soon. It's on the site under the HD page.

HD10u investment has paid off!

Hmm, ok...I might be holding onto my HD10u for another year.

It's ok for all of us really, it means our initial investment has just paid off...

Haha, the Sony article has a great typo:

...stated Craig Yanagi, spokesperson for Sony Broadcast ''Obliviously Sony is going to consistently go on and take the feedback from the marketplace...

I think they meant 'Obviously'...

Based on those articles...
all just hot air and moldy plastic. JVC even stated what they are showing may not be the actual camera they will be shipping.

They also stated that it will not be the next HDV cam they deliver. I wonder why no prototype or mock up of that one?
