Re: JVC GY LS300 firmware wishlist
VSM and J-Log1 have totally revolutionized shooting and post-production on the LS300, transforming it into a far more capable video camera than the Panasonic GH4. JVC deserves major credit for responding in a timely and progressive manner to customers' needs, delivering far beyond our original expectations.
What I'd like to see are further refinements to J-Log1 mode, enabling broader user options in settings that are not intrinsically related to the tone curve and color matrix processing functions of the camera: 1. J-Log1 videos are extremely soft and always require sharpening in post. Please enable the Sharpness control in J-Log1 mode. 2. All auto-exposure features are disabled in J-Log1 mode. This greatly impairs the usibility of the camera in run-and-gun situations at live events. Please enable the same auto-exposure features in J-Log1 mode as in ITU709 mode. 3. The spot meter is erratic and unreliable for setting highlight exposure. Its mysterious "800%" readout is useless for setting exposure levels. Please fix this meter to monitor accurate peak illumination levels and revise it to display IRE levels from 0-108%. |
