Boom and Shockmount
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...=292933&is=REG
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...=258369&is=REG I'm looking at shockmounts and a boom. Are these any good? The shockmount looks like a bunch of plastic to me, so is $150 a good price for this item? Is a boom with an inner cable alot better? |

I'd get one of the mounts that will also serve as the mount to a blimp system. Then you will be set up for a real wind shielding system when you need it and won't have to buy the mount again.
A little more expensive but if you get one like the Light Wave Super Mount ($175), you also get a pistol-grip setup which is very handy. Unfortunately B&H does not sell the Light Wave Systems blimp product. An internal cable is going to make some noise at some time in your work. I much prefer the external cable wound around the boom and held down with hair balls. Or use a plug-on transmitter to go wireless from the microphone to the receiver mounted on the camera. My preference is for carbon fibre if possible. I strongly recommend you not buy the Light Wave. I have one and it has had tube-clamp problems since day one. I think the design is marginal.
