Travel Adaptor, Brazil Type "N" Sockets

Off to the Pantanal next month. Still trying to find out what plug adaptors I will need for their three prong "Type N" sockets.( Brazil does not have standard countrywide sockets and plugs.)

I will be taking UK spec. chargers with me, with our three prong plugs, but could get by piggy-backing these onto a US or Euro to "Type N" adaptor (or adapter).

Any help appreciated, will be on a right mess if I can't recharge batteries!

Re: Travel Adaptor, Brazil Type "N" Sockets

Hi Ron,

As you say, there is a variety of socket, mainly dependent on the age of the installation.
The new N type is fairly recent - Ive only seen them come on sale in the last year.

You should be OK with a mix of US flat pin adapters and EU 2.5A adapters - most older sockets have both types present.

The only thing to watch with the new ones is the lozenge shaped recess, or a flange on some sockets, which prevent some EU plugs from working. You can also find suitable adaptors from EU to type N in most supermarkets -

Let me know if you have any more queries!

Thank you Paul. No supermarkets where I'm going (Pouso Alegre) but presumably I'll be able to buy adapters at the airport, either Sao Paulo or Cuiaba?

Perhaps I was a bit generous in my use of the word ¨supermarkets¨! Not Tescos for sure - this is what I use for converting EU plugs- also works with US style, and yes, certainly in Sao Paulo airport you can find travel adaptors.
