How fast does your system drive need to be?
For video editing, how fast does your system drive need to be? If you have your storage on a RAID array, then you are using your system drive for programs, and OS. So is there any benefit to a faster system drive? I asume not... 40mb/s should be fine right? As opposed to 80mb/s you get with faster SATAII?

Hey Tyson,
It should only really matter if you have a swap/paging/virtual memory file on that drive. Otherwise, it's only accessed occasionally for plugins, filters, little things like that. Just keep it defragmented and you should be fine. The actual drive speed won't be equal to the interface speed though. I doubt you'd find an 80meg/sec hard drive out there. :) Hope this helps, Eric |
