HDV render time work around?

I don't have any experience with rendering back to DV tape but I was thinking:

If saving to tape is real time (?) and capturing is real time wouldn't it save time to record an edited HDV file to tape and then capture that tape instead of rendering it for hours?

I haven't tried this yet, does anyone do this?
