Dropped frames????

I purchased Vegas Movie Studio + DVD and after capturing video footage I got a total of 900 dropped frames. I'm using an external HD and I'm still getting dropped frames. What causes this? Is this caused my my camcorder, or just the computer? I use a Sony DCR vx2000 and camera seems to be in great shape. If anyone has experienced same problem, let me know what you did. Take are and GOD bless!
