Is the following workflow possible?
Hi there,
I am planning to shoot a short film on HDV and wondered if the following workflow would be possible: 1. Downconvert the footage to DV (due to the fact that my PC is not powerful to handle HDV footage at the moment) 2. Edit the film on Avid Xpress DV 3. Do an EDL of the edit and take it to a post production house and online the film on Avid Xpress Pro HD from the original HDV masters My main concern is if it would be possible to edit in DV and then re-digitize the footage from the masters. I hope I posted this in the right forum! Thanks, Kosta Panagos |

It should work, it's designed to work that way, in fact you shouldn't need to do it with an EDL, but should ba able to reopen your Avid Project or an OMF of the final sequence, and reset it to HD res/codec and hen batch capture. You may need to redo titles and move/crop/3d effects for the new res' though.
HOWEVER be careful. Make sure you do not capture tape at a time, capture individual shots with in and out points (and pre-roll and post roll) within the stop and start points of the recording. Otherwise, there can be slips in the timecode at every recording break which will mount up and make your HD batch capture inacccurate. |
