Trying to use FCP with HDV - problems. Please help.

I am trying to capture 1080i output from a Canon XL H1 into FCP.

If I capture using Apple intermediate Codec I can see the picture while I'm capturing, but FCP will not allow me to import the QT file into FCP.

If I use the native HDV setting I cannot see the picture when capturing, but I can create a sequence with the QT capture file. Problem is that it then wants to have it rendered - and when I try to render, it simply won't do it. By the way, I can hear the sound. And I must be capturing something because the file is a little under one minute and comes in at 120megs.

I am using FCP 5.0.4 and latest QT. Mac G5 with System 10.4.4. and a Blackmagic Decklink HD Pro.

What on earth am I doing wrong?

In my A/V settings I have:

Summary:

Sequence preset: HDV - 1080i60
Capture preset: HDV (have also tried Apple intermediate codec)
Video Playback:Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 29.97Hz - 8 bit (1920x1080)

Sequence presets:

HDV - 1080i60

Capture presets:

HDV (have also tried Apple intermediate codec)

Video playback:

Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 29.97Hz - 8 bit (1920x1080)

Can anyone spot a mistake here before I get out the razorblades?

This thing is killing me.

Many thanks,

Harry.
