What do you think of this idea for an edit desk?
I've been toying around with the idea of building my own edit desk because I just can't bring myself to pay $2500+ for a good, large, solid desk! Anyway, the room I will be using is a spare bedroom in my house, it's about 10x15, a decent size room with vaulted ceilings. Well, the room has new carpet that I put down about a year ago, and I'd like to keep it carpeted.
What do think of building a wooden platform (out of some 2x4s and 3/4" plywood), raised off the floor about 3", where I can the carpet, build my custom corner desk to put on top of this platform (about 8x10), and have a good place to roll around freely where I need to. I was thinking of just putting down the linoleum tiles that resemble wood on top of the plywood, then staining and finishing the rest of the platform to where it looks good. I'll also make it easy to take apart for moving. ALso, the edges will be ridged so I don't roll off the edge too easily What I want is a nice editing setup, with hardwood, but I want to keep my carpet. I figured this would be a great alternative, so all I have to do is take apart my platform and desk, and move it into another house, leaving the carpeted bedroom for the next owner. What do you think? Would it look too home made or out of place? |
