I have a Seagate firewire/USB2 300GB/7200RPM/8MB Cache "pushbutton backup" external drive. It works fine for regular DV on my dual G5 Mac via firewire 400. Haven't tried it yet for HDV, but since the data rates are comparable I imagine it will be fine.

most external drives only have a one year warranty.
buy the seagate drive seperately, and you should be able to get a 5 year warranty on it... put it in a nice external usb 2.0 box, something that has a fan on it. |
