HDV and software
I wasn't sure which forum to post this, but I was wondering if HDV work well with the following programs: ParticleIllusion and After Effects. I currently use Vegas, but if I upgrade to HDV, I would use Gearshift. How well would HDV files (or intermediary files) work with these two programs? Thanks.

After effects works with almost any resolution, certainly much higher than HDV.
However it has big problems with MPEG2 compression, so you would have to use an suitable i-frame, or uncompressed codec. |

When I first got my FX1, I found that I had an MPEG-2 codec that allowed AE to import HDV footage. I don't know where the codec came from, but not all can do this. I found that to do decent effects work, it was well worth it to convert the MPEG-2 data to an uncompressed avi... otherwise workflow would grind to a halt. This took up a lot of hard drive space, but was worth it.
Now that I have AspectHD, I just copy/paste from Premiere into AE, and work on the Cineform files straight up. -Steve |
