transcode 5DM2 footage to Prores 422 or Prores 422 HQ?
So I've heard recently that converting your 5DM2 clips to Prores 422 HQ for editing with FCP (v6) maybe overkill, and Prores 422 might be sufficient?
I'm using 5DtoRGB to do the conversions. Choices are Prores 422, 422 HQ, or DMX (don't have FCP 7 so no prores 444). Keep in mind I WILL be wanting to grade/color correct this footage. So are the giant file sizes of 422 HQ necessary? Thanks. |

You heard right.
ProRes HQ is really for material that originated as 2k, on film or as 4:4:4 on tape or digital recorders. DSLR footage is so heavily compressed in camera, there's no benefit to using HQ. "Reguar" ProRes is more than sufficient. |
