Free or cheap alternatives to ImageMixer 3 SE?

Although the Canon HF11 I just bought comes with ImageMixer 3 SE, while installing it, it rejects the serial number printed in the battery compartment. I tried contacting Pixela and Canon and so far I can't get through to either (number can't connect for some reason). So now I'm looking for an alternative since I have nothing else right now that can edit AVCHD.

Ideally, the alternative is something free (open-source, maybe?) or very cheap, instead of something that costs hundreds of dollars. I do have Adobe Premiere CS3 but it does not import AVCHD and I'd have to spend money on third-party solutions. I'd like to see if there are any good free/cheap solutions first before I dig deep into the wallet again. Any suggestions?
