Several video editing applications for PCs have an output option to encode to the Windows Media format, which you can expect to be very time-consuming even on the fastest computers. For Macs there is one recently shipping plugin to allow this same capability; I don't know the name off-hand.

In Canopus Edius, Windows Media HD is a standard output option, and I believe the same is true for some other applications. What program are you using?

You can download the WMV-WMA encoder free from Microsoft.
