Component out and Firewire machine control
Aloha,
I think I have figured out one of the better ways to capture footage from the FX1. Set firewire output to DV25. Connect component output to an I/O card with component in. I am looking at a Decklink HD ($600) and a Decklink Multibridge ($2000). There are other options both HD and SD. Next I set FCP to do machine control via Firewire and capture via the Decklink. Now I can set in and out points, control the camera from FCP, and get timecode embedded. Unless there is some way to get TC in an HDV file over firewire, I think this is the best set-up. I haven't tried it yet, I am just now buying my HD card, but a guy on another forum was doing this with an SD I/O card and his FX1. Once I looked at the settings in FCP it seemed obvious. My only concern is what codec to capture to? I don't have fast enough drives for uncompressed HD. I guess I can capture to DVCProHD 1080i until I can afford faster drives.
