Sony M35U aspect ration record problem

Dear technical wizards,

We recently purchased the Sony M35U HDV deck. At the moment, we're feeding a 16x9 DVCAM signal into the deck from Premiere Pro via firewire. The deck is reading the signal as 4x3. We've been going over the menus but can't find a solution.

If we play a 16x9 DVCAM tape, it plays 16x9.

Any ideas, thoughts or possible solutions?

Thank you very much in advance,

Joe

If you record that DVCAM 16x9 signal to tape and then playback is the image 4x3 or 16x9?

Hi Joe,

I've got the M25 model of this deck.

Is it the LCD video monitor/screen on the front of the deck that you are judging by? I've noticed that whenever I have SD video passing through the deck, it is displayed as 4:3 aspect ratio (regardless of whether it is 4:3 or 16:9) on this screen. High Def content is always displayed at 16:9, making use of the full width of the display screen.

I think it's just what this deck does with monitoring incoming external video.

I have noticed (now that I think of it) that 16:9 SD content shot with my V1 displays using the full width of the LCD screen when playing back from the tape.
