Is this the solution?

I have been lurking for a while, and holding off on buying the camera until the kinks were worked out. The solutions were too complicated and would breed problem after problem. However, this version of VLC seems to be the answer. It seems to play and demux mpeg-2 transport streams and output them as well. We should be able to be able to import the footage with Virtual DVHS, convert with VLC, edit with FCP, convert back with VLC, and output back to the camera with Virtual DVHS. Is this the answer or am I being too optimistic?

The problem at this time is that VLC has a limit on its data rate of 15Mps (we need ~19Mps) when creating mpeg files from other formats, also the mpeg files it created were not compatible with the camera the last time I tried (with the beta version of 0.7.0). Because of these problems I have been using VLC to convert program stream to transport stream only (no mpeg encoding going on in VLC) and using mpeg2enc/mplex to create the mpeg2 program stream.
I have mentioned the 15Mbs limit on the videolan forums, but have not received much response.
