Will this work for HD footage?

I work in a building where there are 2 video guys in 2 different departments. The main video guy (for the whole building), and myself (specialized for one department). The main videographer just upgraded his studio to HD. We couldn't be happier.

Until last night.

I realized last night that he shoots everything with his equipment, then I edit what he's shot if it's for my department. He's just upgraded to an EX1.

Here's the specs on my MBP:
Intel Core 2 Duo
2.16 GHz
1 Processor
2 Cores
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
Memory: 4GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP22.00A5.B07

Also, how will I capture the media? It's on SxS cards. I'm not familiar with that camera at ALL. Any help/guidance will be much appreciated.

You didn't mention with what you would be editing. Is it FCP? (You'll need the latest version.) Sony has an XDCAM importer that wraps the XDCAM (including XDCAM EX) files into something readable by FCP. I don't have the link handy to the site, but check out Sony's site as well as the XDCAM EX forum here.

Sorry, yeah, FCS2. I'll look into that. Thanks.

you should ask him to switch over to SD cards so you can ingest the footage.... they are
cheaper also...

Cineform would be another good ingest option that you should look into...

He should be able to ingest from a SxS card just fine through the MBP PCI Express slot.
