To RAID or not to RAID?
I'm thinking of building a 2 SATA2 Drive RAID over PCI (not PCI-E, we bought a dual-slot Video Card which blocked the second PCI-E port.) to possibly do some uncompressed editing with my Intensity Pro or use Cineform down the line. My motherboard (nForce 630i) from what I've read supports 66Mhz PCI 2.1. All I ask is, is it worth it to use a 2 disk PCI RAID with caching on for Uncompressed HD or should I go for a single drive setup with compressed video?
In addition, what are the typical and maximum bitrates of codecs like Cineform NEO HD? Please answer. Last edited by Jack Zhang; July 1st, 2008 at 09:07 PM. |

I've made my decision, I'm gonna RAID as soon as we purchase Cineform because I might be using the "Film Scan" quality mode a lot. A single drive unbuffered is still only 15MB/s, so 2 drives buffered should be more than enough for a reliable capture.
