Very interesting editing tool I saw at NAB

http://www.theassistanteditor.com/results.html

What it is:
It looks at your log notes and creates a first edit based on those notes and themes you pick out.

Interestingly enough, these edits are coherent and it's an interesting way of seeing the same footage cut together different ways.

Quite possibly the scariest editing tool you've ever seen?

Saw that demo at the FCP Supermeet. Interesting idea to say the least.

That's Phillip & Greg's new project.

They're saying that it's a few weeks away from an initial beta at this point.

It requires copious logging notes but should really be a boon to long form producers. Once the Metadata is on the clip it does a basic edit. You'll have to go back in and make it a real edit, but it takes a lot of the tedium out of that first edit and allows you to really dive in.

Some randomly generated art is pretty good.

In the world of documentary filmmaking that I live in - we call "Copius logging notes" - a 'paper edit'.
