DeckLink HD Pro: Do I need it?
I recently purchased the BlackMagic Design DeckLink HD Pro capture card, but I'm not sure if I need it (ihaven't installed it yet). I'm editing on a G5, Final Cut Studio 2, FCP 6.0. Shooting and capturing mainly in HDV but mostly outputting to SD DVDs or SD DVCAM tape. I don't do After Effects or a lot of fancy graphics or animation, but I want to be able to edit both HDV footage and SD footage on the same timeline without issues, but I can't quite figure out if I need this $1400 piece of hardware or if I can get by with what I've got or is there something cheaper out there. Any ideas? Thanks!

hi
a lot of the screen work for editing HDV as well as other highly compressed formats is done on these videocards freeing the processors to do the other stuff you will probably be able to edit the hdv but without the cardyou will not get as many (if any) real time effects(dissolves, 3way CC, etc.) |
