Re: Wedding Video Editor needed
I got your email and tried to respond but it says the server rejects your address. Not sure why?

Re: What is the best way to attract Actors for Independent Film?
Don't know if anyone will read this, but I'll go ahead anyway, just in case.
I'm a former professional actor who's been for fortunate enough to appear on some of the more prestigious stages in the US, as well as on a number of cable series. Nowadays, I hide behind the camera, mainly because it pays better ;-). So, I hire and direct other actors. Having been in front of the camera, I can tell you that I rarely auditioned for any production company I didn't know. I did do that at one time; back when I was making the transition from stage to on-camera and felt I needed the experience. Unfortunately, that experience taught me to stay the @#$% away from unpaid gigs -- NOT because of the money, so much, but because unpaid work has a great probability of coming to absolutely nothing. More on that later. There was another reason to stay away: Directors who have grown up behind the camera tend to be lousy, lousy, lousy directors of actors. And I mean execrable. My experience is that the overwhelming majority are just terrible at this. They don't even know enough about acting to use the language trained actors speak, and when they DO give direction, it's often horrible and hackneyed. For example, I played a physician in one short, and there was this scene where I show up at the break room, and a little kid is buying a soft drink. I happen to know that this little kid's mother is dying, right? So, the directors says to me, "I want you to look at him, then shake your head and turn away." In other words, the director was saying, " I want you to look at him, then do something incredibly hackneyed that is known, in acting circles, as 'indication,' so you can look like a really, really bad actor." And that's just one example. I've got many more. But even if you do have a reasonably good experience, as I had with one film where I played the Metatron and choreographed the sword fighting scenes, it often happens that the people making the film never finish it. The aforementioned film is in the can, so to speak. It just needs editing and special effects, for cryin' out loud. And nothing ever came of my weeks of hard work. I've had other cases where a film was made and shown, and I never got a copy. So, now I don't bother. To many fly-by-nighters out there. Now, if it pays SOMETHING, then I figure the filmmaker has skin in the game, and something good might come to pass. But there's still that issue of horrible direction .... ;-) Last edited by Stuart OSteen; June 30th, 2011 at 03:26 PM. |

Illinois - Backup Videographer Needed
I have a wedding video shoot scheduled for September 10th and I am available, however my wife has a due date for our first born on September 9th.
I'm looking to see what my options could be for a backup person to show up on that day and help out. I would certainly pay the person to just show up, even if they don't need to actually do any work. Best case scenario - My wife gives birth before the 9th and I am able to work on the 10th, no backup needed. Possible Scenario - My wife hasn't given birth yet and I need this person to show up and shadow me throughout the day. Worst Case Scenario - My wife hasn't given birth yet and this person shows up and I have to leave, making this person the lead videographer. Anyone interested? We can discuss the amount of $ involved. Message me. |

HDCam and Beta Deck?
Hey all,
I'm getting ready to produce 26 episodes of a show for cable on the very cheap, and I need to write them out to HDCam for HD and either DigiBeta or Beta SP for SD. My hope is to be able to ship an MOV file to someone and have them write to the video to the tape. I'm in the LA area, but I suppose the person doing this could be anywhere, so long as the are professional and very reliable. Anyone fit the bill? Or does anyone have any recommendations in the LA area for post houses that could do it? Thanks! Barry |

Re: HDCam and Beta Deck?
bumping this...
The quotes I'm getting in LA are higher than I'd like. Anyone out there want to make money off the deck they have sitting around? |

Re: HDCam and Beta Deck?
Would it be better to rent each deck for a couple of days than pay someone else?

Re: HDCam and Beta Deck?
Thanks for the input, but it's 26 weekly episodes, so I can't really do that.

Re: Venetian Police boat siren needed
Well that YouTube clip sounds like a typical old style (1980's?) UK police/ambulance siren to me...but then I'm not your Director!
