Following your link, amongst the blurb it says
Quote:
So there are two issues to come to understand here. The first is how close is the 4/3 imager is in size relationship to 35mm film. The 4/3 imager measures 32.5 across and 35mm fil (movie film, sprocket to sprocket) measures 35mm. In other words, very close. If someone wants to determine what the crop factor would be from a standard 35mm film lens, use .8 as your multiplier. If they want a crop factor for 35mm still lenses that crop factor would be 2X.
Which is rubbish. The "4/3" refers to a historic nominal tube diameter - not the width across the active sensor. For that matter, then in relation to film "35mm" has no relation to width of active area - it's the total width of film including sprocket holes etc. If you want a list of frame sizes, it's worth looking here - Image sensor format - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

For 4/3, the diagonal measurement is 21.6mm, the width of the active sensor is 17.3mm. (Note the height is only about 9.7mm - the 13mm figure relates to a 4:3 ratio sensor, not as used for 16:9)

For an s35 sensor, the width of the actual sensor is about 24.89mm - which gives a crop factor closer to 0.7 than 0.8.

It's completely wrong to say that "The first is how close is the 4/3 imager is in size relationship to 35mm film" - in area terms, for 16:9 use, the 4/3 sensor is very close to only half the size of an s35 imager.
