Anyone knows of a freeware utility to simply write M2T back to tape?

Why not use your editing application?

It's for someone who only does some basic cutting with freeware utils. I don't think he wants to buy and install Premiere Pro. Unless you can reccomend a cheap consumer alternative?

There is Vegas 6 available at BH Photo http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...o_Editing.html for $99. It's a full feature editing program. Might want do double check that you can write back to tape though I believe it does.

I noticed Vegas 8 has HDV support. Think I'll download a trial myself because I got curious and tried to write to tape with Premiere Pro 2, but it took like ages to "transcode to HDV". I recaptured the file and saw that is was re-encoded though there was nothing edited at all. This is really a bad thing. I don't wonna switch to another NLE just to be able to make a lossless HDV backup.

Are HD-DVD burners for PC yet available?
