HD component capture vs XDCAM HD

Now that the technology exists to capture HD footage via component outputs of most HDV camcorders, has anyone in the market for a higher-end HD camera (such as the F350 or F900) considered (or tried/implemented) a component-to-PC capture setup?

With the Blackmagic card selling for $1k and few extra grand for associated computer hardware, am I correct that it would be possible to obtain results comparable or surpassing that of the 35Mbps $30k-plus camera/lens combos (taking into account the obvious differences in lens and chip quality)?

Of course, there is the issue of shooting with a tethered camera for run-and-gun situations - but with the recent thread describing the mobile HD-SDI capture setup, it seems that this may not be such an obstacle.
