Bayer- vs 3CCD- resolution in HDV/AVCHD

Hello,

How would you rate the resolution between the new single chip Bayer (?) CFA based HDV/AVCHD cameras vs the 'old' 3CCD PAL video cameras ?

To me it seems that the Canon HV10 have about 1MP luminance resolution and the Sonys about 0.75 MP while an old great, but still consumer grade, 3CCD PAL camera could have up to 0.5MP luminance resolution.

Here are some links to my other posts about this:

Am I on the right track ?

Here's what some interlaced 3CCD cameras do:

When they read out, they actually read off three lines when generating a single line. The weighing might be 1/4 for the top, 1/2 for the middle, 1/4 for the bottom.
This can improve SNR, reduce interlace flicker.

If you just take 4/4 from the middle, then the line above and below don't really do anything. They sit there collecting photons which won't be used at all, since those pixels sit at a field that's not being scanned at that moment.

For a bayer camera:
Here is one camera system described:

De-bayering may occur across 2 columns and 2 rows.

Here is a link to a Steve Mullen article that may be of help. At the top of the page is a link to the PDF version which should be easier to read.
