Isn't the HVX under $10K? Or did you trick it out with P2 cards?

Are you asking about new camera's or current models? I think all current pro-
sumer HD camera's are under $10K.

If they were unannounced, how would anyone know of them?

Don't buy anything in the month before NAB unless you need to use it during that time. There is always someting announced with availability which could alter your decision. It might even be an HVX-200A. (No I don't have any knowledge of such a thing) The new JVC camera sounds interesting but I would wait for specs and delivery before saying it is the next greatest thing since sliced bread. It does call into question anyone buying the JVC 100 model for a least a couple of weeks.

I know the DVX100a shipped a year after the 100 shipped, but people are just now slowly getting their HVX200s, so I don't think we'll see a 200a for a while.

Although new products are often announced at NAB, they usually don't ship for several months. The advice to "wait for NAB" is advice to "wait for September." Which I can't agree with. If you're waiting, you're not creating. If you have something to shoot, now is always the right time to buy. When something better comes along, simply sell what you've got and transition into the new gear.

More like "wait for next January" unless you're on the early order list for the first shipment. :-)

Other than that your comments are right on the money. Get what you need when you need it, or just enjoy the cameras you've got now and don't worry about it.

Agreed - assuming you have to buy to shoot. If you already have gear, but are thinking of upgrading in the next few months, then postponeing any decision until after NAB makes a lot of sense - creating with what you already own. Financially, the renting option may make a lot of sense in some circumstances.

Not to mention, if there is a new model out, it is likely to be a prototype. Or if it's actually in production, it may have bugs that need to be worked out. Let someone else jump on it and be the guinea pig.

Thanks all, about renting, that may be available in your neck of the woods, but the crappy area I live in, I already have about par what I can rent.

I do plan to wait till atleast the end of May before I buy, I have to reshuffle what I plan to buy aswell.

NAB nerves

I think I read this same thread every year around NAB. ;-)

Good luck on staying at the front of the pack!
